Back with a bang! The Diva and Maestro Collaboration Vol.2 returns to the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town this June, to showcase a night of elegance and musical talent within The Mother City and surrounding Western Cape regions.
Showcasing a stripped-down collection of sensual songs on stage, former Idols winner and motivational speaker, Karin Kortje, and internationally acclaimed pianist and music teacher, Camillo Lombard, are expected to set the tone by delivering a pure music style accompanied by a grand piano, acoustic bass and drums – fit for a memorable and dazzling evening of musical hits.
This year’s The Diva and Maestro Collaboration Vol.2 concert series will once again focus on featuring young new extraordinary musical talent from the Overberg region in The Western Cape on stage.
Kortje is excited to take to the stage during Youth Month – seeing as her main aim is to give back and help discover other young talented singers.
“We have so many young talented singers right here amongst us, and I feel it's my responsibility to give back and nurture the future talent of the region, so that they too can realize their dreams,” says Kortje.
Basil Appollis will serve as director at this year’s The Diva and Maestro Collaboration Vol.2 concert series, and he will be shadowed by an aspiring young talent passionate about directing.
Camillo Lombard, who will accompany Kortje on stage as the Maestro, will showcase a cohort of beautiful musicians and singers from his school: Cape Music Institute.

OVERBERG’S GOT TALENT
The annual Overberg’s Got Talent competition, which runs till the end of August in schools from Grabouw, Villiersdorp, Caledon and Hawston, was conceptualized by Kortje in order to discover musical talent within the region, and to help them achieve their dreams of working in the entertainment industry.
Rooted in the history of this production is Karin Kortjes’ investment in young talent. Already running in its fourth year, Overberg’s Got Talent will culminate in the winner being announced in August.
“My aim is to give them a platform to share their talent, with other top local stars and learn from these musicians to forge their own musical career,” says the mother of four children.
Kortje, who won Idols in 2005, says the idea of this competition started as a way to celebrate the 10th anniversary of her win on the reality TV show. “I always knew I wanted to give back and working with my former band manager, Vernon Joorst, we've managed to recruit and audition children to participate in the competition. It's been such a rewarding journey, with this years' competition entrants really giving their all and I look forward to performing with the winner on stage next month.”
