Banish the winter blues with some great shows at Cape Town's premiere community theatre, Masque Theatre!

Billy Liar - A Classic British Comedy

Based on a successful book, play, movie and TV series, Billy Liar, tells the story of Billy Fisher, a lazy dreamer bored with his job and life at home with his family, who takes refuge in his own invented world, which makes his life tolerable, but intolerable for everyone else around him. He lies his way in and out of every situation, creating tensions at home with his parents and ailing grandma, trouble at work with missing money, as well as romantic problems with the three very different girls he’s promised to marry.

Written by the talented duo Keith Waterhouse and Willis Hall, this production is directed by Lynn Moss for Claremont Dramatic Society. Starring one of the Masque’s favourite comedy actors, James Skilton, with the hilarious Bryan Look as ‘our Billy’.

Charley’s Aunt by Brandon Thomas

Desperately seeking an Aunt.... Charley and Jack, two students at college during commemoration week, suddenly find themselves in need of an aunt to chaperone two sweet young girls (with whom they are madly in love), when the real aunt’s arrival is delayed.

Fortunately for them their best friend Babbs, a young English Lord with a fondness for champagne is conveniently rehearsing a part in an amateur play, the part of an elderly woman, costume and all. Reluctantly Babbs agrees to help them by taking on the identity of the real aunt, Donna Lucia D’Alvadorez, who hails from Brazil, “where the nuts come from”. Naturally this all results in a great deal of subterfuge, confusion and humour from a gentler time.

Directed by Barbara Basel and produced by MADS this very funny comedy will entertain and gladden the hearts of all. Tickets available through Computicket or book via email at bookings@masquetheatre.co.za.

Performances Friday 8 June @ 8pm, Saturday 9th June @ 2:30pm & 6:30pm and Wednesday 30th, Thursday 14th June, Friday 15th June @ 8pm, and Saturday 16th  @ 2:30pm & 6:30pm.
