Press: Alan Committie's perfect ‘date-comedy’, Love Factually at the Baxter from 29 May to 16 Ju

Alan Committie, the star of Defending the Caveman, comes to the Baxter Flipside from 29 May to 16 June at 8pm nightly, with a brand-new, hilarious exploration of the battle of the sexes (and the exes) called Love Factually.

After 963 performances of Defending the Caveman, Committie decided it was time to take a fresh look at relationships, so he wrote and performed Love Factually to critical and commercial acclaim. The show has had three sold out seasons in Johannesburg, a successful season in the UK where it debuted at the Rhoda McGaw Theatre in Woking, England in 2016 and was last seen in a sold out run at Theatre on the Bay.

Committie now brings his hit show to the Baxter Flipside in 2018 with a fresh look at relationships. For a short season, he will wow audiences with his family-friendly, high energy antics and delight people who are in relationships, leaving relationships or once read about relationships.

Recognized as one of South Africa’s leading stand-up comedians and renowned master of ceremonies (having hosted six Fleur Du Cap Theatre Awards, nine Jive Cape Town Funny Festivals and seven Sunday Times Top 100 companies awards evenings amongst many others), Committie is a multiple award-winning actor. His accolades include a Fleur du Cap Best Actor award for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead and a South African Film and TV Best Supporting Actor award winner for Laugh Out Loud.

With a comedic, honest and sometimes even touching look at couples, Committie will continue to explore the absurd differences between men and women, the quirks and foibles of marriage and dating, and will even try to finally provide the right answers to those loaded questions, “Do you think I look fat?”, “Are you listening to me?” and “Would you prefer to go to the cricket or spend the day with me and my mom!?!”

In Love Factually the every-man hero also investigates Tinder and text breakups, online attractions, distractions and de-tractions, gives tips on how to survive as a “post-modern, metro-quasi-dexi-semi-multi-mano-sexual”, explores being single verse being able to mingle and, most importantly, looks at fitting duvet covers and how that could keep a relationship together.

Love Factually previews on 29 and 30 May, opens on 31 May, and runs until 16 June at 8pm with matinee performances on 2, 9 and 16 June, at 5pm. Tickets range between R120 and R160 with an age restriction of 12 years. There is an early bird special for R100 a ticket that runs until 21 May.
