Press: Jungle Theatre Company presents When Lion Had Wings

Jungle Theatre Company (JTC) has developed a brand new family show called When Lion Had Wings with funds received from the National Lotteries Commission.

This ancient Khoikhoi folktale is told by three very different characters in English, Afrikaans and Nama (Khoikhoi language). Animal masks and original songs are used to tell the story of a flying lion who is bullying all the animals and has made vultures his slaves. They portray hilarious frogs who lead the animals to discover their own talents and to stand up to the bully. The story tellers continuously link the folktale to the language, the culture and the history of the Khoikhoi as well as to their personal experiences. Insights into the behaviour of humans and wild animals are revealed.

Performances take place at the Masque Theatre (foyer) on 8, 12, 13, 14 and 15 December at 10am. The show is 40 minutes in duration and suitable for the whole family. Tickets are R50. As the performances are funded by the National Lottery Commission 100% of the proceeds will be used to take the show to needy children next year.
