An evening of Christopher Durang short plays.
What turns a drab night out into a fab ab crunching routine this Spring in Cape Town? Watching six one-act plays by acclaimed playwright Christopher Durang, told with a unique directorial twist by Katey Carson, of course. Kalahari Film and Media presents an evening of dark comedy featuring some of Broadway darling Christopher Durang's plays, produced by Michael Murphey and Heike Brunner. Carson directs award-winning films and documentaries, and her take on the catastrophically comedic texts that made Durang famous is something that brings even the most estranged groups together through non-stop laughter. This is Carson’s theatre directing debut.
Durang's absurd characters in seemingly ordinary situations are brought to life by Adrienne Pearse, Dylan Esbach, Danieyella Rodin, Mark Penwill, Roxanne Gabriels, Caroline Midgley, Joe Vaz, Kate McDonald, Alistair Moulton-Black and Heike Brunner. Together they help audiences navigate stories about a man at the traffic department, mourners at a funeral, a chatty old lady discussing photosynthesis and divorcees at dinner, good luck to them!
The plays hold a larger-than-life mirror up to modern society and its unwritten codes. No previous theatre experience necessary, only an open mind.
