Press: Salt at Theatre Arts Admin Collective

Intermingling physical performance and thrilling drama, Salt was considered ‘one of the gems on this year’s Fringe’ (Ismail Mahomed, Artistic Director, NAF),‘a haunting journey’ (David Fick, Broadway World) and‘…stands out as something special’ as well as being ‘…nothing short of brilliant.’, (Cue Newspaper 2014).

Winner of a Standard Bank Ovation Award, a PANSA New Writer Award, thrice nominated for a 2014 Dassie and winner of a Dassie Best Indie Production, Salt is an exciting new show that is fast gaining recognition as a stand out piece on the South African theatre circuit. An exploration into mental health, truth and belief, Salt follows Aya, a long time patient in a psychiatric hospital who one day encounters a new doctor who believes he can cure her. He helps to drag her out of her drug-induced amnesia and confused imaginings with enlightening yet dire consequences.

‘SALT is an incredibly satisfying theatrical experience, the emergence of a new voice within the South African theatre landscape’ (David Fick, Broadway World) that promises to be charming and funny one moment and heart breaking the next. Whilst utilizing the full language of theatre with a superbly talented cast, Salt insures a performance that is fresh, striking, and intellectually intriguing.

This performance runs directly post The Playroom, directed by Thando Mzembe (3rd – 7th March at 7pm), an award winning production that also explores issues around mental health, putting the 2 productions in conversation with each other.
