The side-splitting comedy, Violet Online, currently running at Kalk Bay Theatre is a true digital love story for the ages.

A tongue-in-cheek look at forty-something divorcee Violet’s, performed brilliantly by the gorgeous Lynita Crofford, foray back into the dating world, the show is directed by the talented Megan Furniss.

Having embarked on the online dating journey myself a year ago, Violet’s hilarious virtual romantic misdemeanours resonated with me … from the first tentative chatroom chat which goes downhill fast to being stood up on a dinner date when she’s blown her budget on clothing, food and sexy lingerie and finally taking charge of her own romantic destiny before meeting The One, Violet Online is a relatable, feel-good show that is a must-see for all singletons!

Crofford, resplendent on her cerise couch while “cyber stalking”, is a delight to watch as Violet and had me laughing out loud (much to my fellow audience members’ chagrin, I’m sure) as she wades through dating sites; disastrous hotel hook-ups and self-discovery. While Violet is certainly no shrinking flower, it takes courage to put yourself out there as a mature singleton, and Crofford portrays this in a charming but admirably delicate manner.

This is Violet Online’s second run in Cape Town, having debuted at Alexander Bar last year, and Kalk Bay Theatre is the perfect venue for it – there is just something so comforting about being able to explore what is still such a sensitive topic for single women in a theatre that really does feel like my second home.

Take your girlfriends, pop by the bar for a glass of splendid wine or one of Grant Jacobs’s ridiculously amazing cocktails and catch this fantastic show before its run ends!

Violet Online runs at Kalk Bay Theatre until Sunday 8 February, 2015. Tickets are and available online at The Kalk Bay Theatre.
