Press Release: The Spoken Word Showdown

Be heard at the spoken word showdown. Entries are now open for SSD – The Spoken Word Showdown, a weekly poetry and comedy competition running every Monday from 27 January at The Players Restaurant in The River Club, Observatory, Cape Town. It culminates in the Final on 15 Dec 2014.

The competition, running all year, consists of weekly Heats of 4 poets and 4 comedians, from which 1 of each go through to the Quarter Finals every 5th week.

From the Quarter Finals, 1 poet and 1 comedian go through to one of the two Semi Finals. The two contestants, one poet and one comedian, advancing from the Quarter Finals, each receive R250.

From a Semi Final round, 2 poets and 2 comedians progress to the Final, each receiving R500. The ultimate winning poet and comedian receive R1000 each.

To enter, contestants must email a 2-paragraph biography, photo and full contact details to nacct@mailbox.co.za.

The doors are open from early evening; with proceedings starting from 19:30. Audience tickets are R30 per person from nomadtickets.co.za or at the door.
